This is a lovely Victorian-era English sterling silver match safe. This antique was made in Birmingham in 1887. This piece is fully marked, although the maker’s mark has worn off slightly.
This match safe is approximately 2 inches tall and an 1 1/2 inches wide. It has engraved foliate and scrolled decoration on the front and back. It has a monogram in a shield on the front that bears the initials “C E”. This piece weighs 20.53 grams or 0.66 troy ounces.
This piece is in excellent condition and can still be used today as a functioning match safe!
