Art Deco Set of Roman Gladiator Horse Chariot Marble Bookends
This is an amazing and rare find! Circa 1920-30s. Each bookend features a gladiator pulling a team of beautifully detailed, muscular horses. The soldier heads appear to be cold painted white and the metal is either bronze or spelter. The horse reins are made of copper wire. Each horse chariot is positioned on a swirled black marble base. Each bookend weighs a substantial 3 lbs and the marble alone measures 6.5" long and 2 5/8" wide. It is 3/4" thick. The decorative statue stands 4.75" high on its base and 4" excluding the base. The statue alone measures 5.5" long and 2" wide. Fresh from a local NC estate, these very beautiful bookends have been well cared for and are quality made. Please see all photos for detail.
