Although these Whiting & Davis purses are now made overseas (sadly), this is a wonderful vintage example of one created in the USA. Circa late 1940s or '50s, it is constructed of black enameled mesh with a scalloped black lucite clasp which reminds us of a spider web. It is a larger size for a Whiting & Davis mesh bag, measuring 13" long and 8" wide, excluding its handle. The curved lucite handle alone is 4.75" high with brass brads. This purse is unstructured so the body expands to fit its contents and weighs 1 lb, excluding packing materials.
The purse interior boasts a black faille fabric, very clean and without stains or holes. There is one interior open pocket. It retains its original designer label which is still legible. The exterior is in very good condition, without tears in the mesh but there are considerable scratches and scuffs on the lucite (mostly on one side) and we have priced it accordingly. The photos show the wear well and although it's disappointing to see this, it doesn't really distract from the coolness of this purse. This is a harder to find, quality made piece and a great accessory for any night, especially on Halloween.
