1976 Rosenthal ~ Bjorn Wiinblad Christmas Collector's Plate ~ Excellent Condition.
This beautiful plate was made by Bjorn Wiinblad (1918-2006), a Danish painter, designer and artist.
His work first appeared in America in 1954, and has been widely shown in Europe, Australia, Japan and Canada. He was a designer for Rosenthal porcelain company and in 1971, he began an annual commemorative Christmas plate design for Rosenthal.
Mr. Wiinblad has been honored as Man of the Year in New York (1985) and was awarded the American-Scandinavian Foundation's Cultural Prize of 1995. His pieces can be found in museums all over the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York; the Victoria and Albert Museum in London; and Stockholm's National Museum.
This Christmas plate is from 1976, featuring an angel playing a trumpet, "Engel Mit Trompete." It measures 11.25" in diameter with a colorfully handpainted, pop art design.
Produced by Rosenthal of Germany, it is made of porcelain and signed 1976 Bjorn Wiinblad on the lower front.
This plate was acquired from the South Carolina estate of a former USC professor. It is without its original box and in phenomenal condition, with only minor wear on the back. Its original hanger is on the back for hanging on the wall.
This plate is sure to delight this upcoming Christmas and any day of the year. It is a harder-to-find, vintage piece and highly prized by collectors.
