Most Rare Original Antique Painted Decorated Pennsylvania Blanket Chest. I purchased this lovely circa: 1800's Blanket Chest for my daughter's wedding, it held most of her dearest collection of treasures and gifts.
It is quite unbelievable to find a original Pennsylvania Blanket Chest, much less one signed and dated on the inside lid (lead pencil). As if this weren't rare enough the original family heir has written a provenance of ownership and creation. A lovely woman, she told me that her family had handed this chest down to her and they named and referred to the chest by name, "Gloria".
Provenance reads: The Wedding Chest, My family was from Holland originally and moved to Norristown, Pa. in 1745. My great, great, grandmother was Gloria June VanZaltbommel and she was married on June 19th of 1825. The wedding chest was a gift from her father Lawrence, who had made it and her mother Genevieve, who painted it. 100 years to the date, my mother was born on that date, June 19th, so her name was Gloria June VonLinder. I pray that you love and take care of the Gloria Chest and may it stay in your family for years to come. It has held some beautiful old quilts and wedding presents in it's time. May you add more to Gloria, with love.
The chest is all original, painted and decorated in lovely floral motifs and beautiful deep attractive colors. The condition is remarkable for it's age, very sturdy construction, feet & mouldings intact, heavy handmade iron hinges, lock missing. Measures: 44"L x 24"W x 23 1/2"H, quite substantial chest.
The "Gloria" Chest awaits her new owner, who will love and cherish her well into the future. She is very special!
