This very fine vintage Chinese export box is crafted in heavy brass and lavishly decorated in cloisonne enamel in shades of orange, blue, green and gold. A huge bezel-set carnelian cabochon graces the top making for a spectacular focal point. The gemstone is flanked by two orange lotus flowers. The interior and bottom of the box are enameled in the familiar Jingtai blue color. The hinged lid dates this to the early to mid 20th century.
The box measures 2-3/8" long by 1-5/8" wide x 3/4" high and the carnelian cabochon measures 1-1/4" in diameter. It's in very good condition with a smooth carnelian stone, free of any nicks or scratches. The enamel is in beautiful condition with just one area on the front of the box that shows a miniscule scratch on the black background. The hinged lid stays nicely in place when closed. No hallmarks are present.
