This beautiful pigeon's-blood, faceted, red ruby necklace is accented with gold vermeil beads. The large faceted rubies are natural earth-mined from Africa. They were faceted in India and weight about 111 grams or 555 carats. These red rubies have been"treated" by heat color enhancements (dyed), fracture filled for enhancements, & clarity enhanced. The cost of unheated, untreated rubies is prohibitive ($200 - $5000 per carat). This type of treatment is new to 1990's. Most gemstones are treated now-a-days, even diamonds. Rubies just keep going up in price due to embargo in Myanmar (Burma) & the closing of ruby mines there. These are the lowest quality rubies (Grade B - the lowest), but they still sell for $10-$20/carat in retail stores. This necklace would cost over $5000.00. Here is an opportunity to wear "Haute-4-Not-A-Lot". I had fun wearing it all day.
