This is a Whale of a necklace. The center-most pendant bead is a gold Keishi Pearl (cultured) that looks (to me) just like a whale. Now, my husband thought it was a stretch. Non-the-less the Keishi pearls are quite amazing. They are rare, scarce, & very expensive in the 1/2 inch to 1 inch size. The necklace is covered with them. Keishi pearls are round pearls gone "wild". The people who grow cultured pearls try to avoid them developing & they X-ray the growing pearls in oysters to eliminate them. It takes over 4 years for a keishi to get big as these are. There are, also, dark amethyst tear-drop beads gotten from the Atlanta Bead Show over 4 years ago. You just cannot find the really dark amethyst at this time. This necklace, also, has very large faceted Madeira citrine (the color of wine). There are also, faceted very superior peridot beads that cost $300.00 for the strand alone. There are dyed green cultured pearls. The findings are sterling. This necklace is one of the most beautiful of all. It just turned out so well. It is so much more beautiful in person. It is like a princess in a fairy-tale. It really should have a better name! But, I got hooked by the whale.
