During the Art Deco period the bakelite inventors found a way to make bakelite that was transparent and christened it "Prystal". It mimics amber. This garnet red version known as "Cherry amber" has great gem like clarity and glow. These beads are so good that they are often mistaken for real amber but don't get fooled! But these bakelite prystal beads are the jewel in the crown of the bakelite world. These Art Deco cherry Prystal Bakelite earrings dangling on chain are a case in point. The original screw backs were broken and so I have replaced them with new rhodium plated pierced lever backs. They have a whole new life with this new hardware. Art Deco restored and swinging vintage is old and new again.
