Measuring 1 3/4" by 1 1/8" these galalith early plastic links have been made from sheets of galalith cut and carved with a machine to echo the machine age period and Modernist design. They may have been made later than the that period which is why I am labeling them vintage. European
designers continued to make jewelry up to the present time...though less and less as the 20th century went on. Galalith is an organic plastic made from milk! Test with emitting sour milk smell. Discovered in the early 1900's when scientist were looking for new ways to waterproof machine parts and cables. Galalith is not molded but like bakelite it is cut or carved. The transparent lime green pieces have been glued in place. The mint green slightly transparent color. It passes in that it emits the sour milk scent and gets slippery when wet. It is recommended to keep away from water and moisture. The stretch string has just been replaced. The best refreshed!
