This is an absolutely stunning portrait plate produced in Vienna in the late 1800's. This plate features a semi nude woman seated on a rock. She is leaning towards the water as she holds onto a tree branch. Waterlillies and flowers are at her feet, with water cascading down the rocks behind her. Incredible workmanship! The plate is artist signed Marko, and titled A Najade. This appears on the front of the plate in gold, rather than on the back of the plate in black. The rim of the plate features an ornate raised gold design incorporating griffins, flowers, scrolls, and leaves. It measures 9 1/2" across. The back of the plate is marked with an underglaze blue beehive mark. This piece is in good condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. A great addition to any porcelain or portrait plate collection!
