This is a unusual bronze bust of a scholarly gentleman. This piece has excellent casting and detail work in the eyes, face, and hair. The detail work on the jacket makes the texture appear as cloth, a rather time consuming process. There is even detail work on the pedestal base under the bust. This piece stands 5 1/2" tall and measures 2 3/4" across at the widest point. It is a solid casting, making the bust measure over 2 1/2" pounds. It is likely German in origin, although there is no signature or foundry mark on it. There is a small indentation in the forehead, and light wear to the patina on the tip of the nose. Otherwise, this piece is in good condition. It dates to the late 1800's or early 1900's.
