This is a wonderful large hand painted vase from T&V Limoges. It shows a man with his arm wrapped around a woman's waist, as they try to shield themselves from the weather. Titled "The Storm", the original painting was commissioned from the artist Pierre-Auguste Cot in 1880 by Catharine Lorillard Wolfe under the guidance of her cousin John Wolfe, one of Cot's main patrons. Workmanship and detail in this piece is incredible, especially in the faces. The blending of the background colors is impressive, from purple and lavender to tones of brown and green. The vase is large, standing almost 22" tall and measuring 7" across. It is marked T&V Limoges on the bottom. There is a tiny glaze miss on the backside of the vase. Otherwise, it is in good condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. A truly impressive piece and a nice addition to any Limoges collection!
