This lovely little chatelaine pill box has an elegantly minimal design with the lid and foot edged in beading. The bottom is marked "1899." and is engraved in European-style numbers, and the lid is beautifully monogrammed. It is marked STERLING on the inside rim and has a distinctly Chinese look to the slightly confusing mark. Chinese export silver was a large industry at the turn of the century and many trinkets and chatelaine pieces, as well as larger objects, were of Chinese origin for the European and U.S. markets.
It is in very good condition for its 122 years. The hinge is perfect and the lid stays closed when snapped into place. There are two very small dents on the back. Please take a close look at the photos.
