Abraham Lincoln's Log Cabin Ceramic Figural Advertizing Bank
ABRAHAM LINCOLN'S LOG CABIN CERAMIC FIGURAL ADVERTISING STILL BANK This is a wonderful whimsical figural still bank by Van Dyk Teas `Everywhere' (Austria c 1900) in the form of a three dimensional log cabin. It stands 2 1/2" tall and is 3 1/2" wide and is 2 1/2" deep. It is made of earthen ware, with a brown, majolica style tin glaze and an unglazed bottom. The log frame building has a timbered roof, front door and window and beehive oven, with a coin slot on the back side. Coins can be retrieved with a thin knife blade placed through the coin slot. The bank is marked Austria `House in Which Abraham Lincoln was Born' and `Van Dyk Teas Our Own Stores Everywhere' and a diamond logo.. It was made for the Van Dyk Tea Company as a giveaway gift with purchase at one of its many retail locations. Although sold largely in America, the advertising for the company lists its location as `Everywhere'. The bank is in great condition, with no chips or repairs. There is a short, very tight and almost un-noticeable hairline crack at the bottom on the back of the cabin . The printed legend on the bottom is complete and legible. A beautiful piece of history and over 100 years old. Since Lincoln was born in the most modest of circumstances, his log cabin near Hodgenville, Kentucky was cast into coin banks and often became every youngster's place to save Lincoln pennies
