Exquisite vintage 17 piece place mat, napkin and runner set dating to circa 1960, covered in floral embroidery, it is infinitely more lovely than the photos suggest, one of the nicest sets of linens I have had in the last decade. The set features richly colored cross stitched designs with small areas of applique, it is almost certainly from Madeira or one of the adjoining Mediterranean areas where beautiful linens embellished with lavish hand work were produced for export during the middle of last century. The runner measures 40" by 16", the 8 place mats measure 16" by 10" and the 8 napkins measure 16" by 16", the set is very clean and is in excellent order with no holes or other wear, just one smallish light yellow stain on one napkin which is unobtrusive and should lift with a light soaking in an appropriate treatment, I think the set was probably used once and then stored in a linen closet. These beautiful linens would be fabulous for luncheons or semi formal dinning; as the color scheme includes a great deal of green and red the set would also be a beautiful way to set the table for holiday gatherings.
