Beautiful Old Barber's Bottle or Decanter with Silver Overlay
Beautiful antique or very early vintage barbers bottle or decanter, in a rich deep green with highly ornate floral overlay in sterling. I would date the bottle to around the early part of the 1900's, when this synthesis of the glassmaker and silversmith's art was at the height of fashion, representing both the wealth and elegance of the increasingly affluent upper middle classes.
The bottle is in very good order for the age, there is some fairly minor wear to the silver finishes, mainly round the neck from use, but no chips, cracks or other damage. The bottle measures approx 7 1/2" tall by 4 1/2" diameter at the widest point.
This would be a beautiful bottle to add to a collection, the color and overlays are just lovely. If you wished to use it as a decanter or cologne bottle, it would be very easy to find a silver or sterling stopper with a cork base, this small addition would render it serviceable as well as rare and lovely.
See my store for other lovely silver overlay items.
