Superb antique quadruple silver plated center piece bowl by Meriden, dating to around the 1880's. The bowl is really stunning and ornate, it has a central pedestal with a highly detailed foliage design to the base, a central riser supported by thick curling tendrils, these details are all well observed and reflect the botanical interests of the period. The top bowl has a richly engraved table with sprays of wheat ears, while at each side of the bowl there are mounted rams heads. I took photos in daylight so you can see all the details.
The bowl measures approx 8" tall by 10" diameter, this is a great size as it is big enough to look imposing, but will not be over scaled for most dinning tables. The bowl is in excellent antique order, the plating shows just the slightest wear, and there are no significant dents or damage of any kind, I found one small scratch to the plating in the interior edge of the actual bowl, otherwise excellent for the age. This would look spectacular "dressed" with seasonal flowers or fruit for a dinner party, and would be a beautiful embellishment to the table between times.
