A lovely pink lustre handle-less cup and saucer, dating to around the 1830s, probably English, unmarked except for a hand painted number to the base. Both the cup and the saucer are decorated with floral medallions with gilt leaves and brighter colored flowers. The cup and saucer have lustre bands, thought the band round the top of the cup shows losses wear commensurate with age and use. The bowl shaped saucer measures 5 1/4" diameter by approx 1 1/4" in deep, the depth was so that hot tea could be poured in the saucer to cool and be drank directly from the saucer. The cup measures 3 1/4" diameter by 2 2/8" in deep. The set is in very good condition for the age, with no chips, cracks,or repairs other than minor wear to the glaze and decoration, and the glaze imperfections typical of this early porcelain. A beautiful early cup and saucer set to add to a collection, see my other listings for other early pieces from the same estate.
