Stunning Victorian wedding gift quilt, constructed of 25 blocks with 17 embroidered initial signatures and sundry small flowers and even a little chick. This would have been created for the brides trousseau, it was a labor of love, and is very special and beautiful. The blocks are of a mixture of fabrics, mainly wool and cotton, with blanket stitched seams, with a later backing and border in a french blue smooth cotton. The quilt does have some issues, there is scattered moth damage to the wool, especially in the border, and a couple of small areas of cotton are partially failing, the worst damage is to two strips of wool (see photos 7 & 8), which have significant moth damage, and ideally these should be supported by tonal silk mesh (which I can supply free of charge) or replaced and the borders restitched, either option is quite viable by an experienced and competent seamstress/conservator, the other damage is acceptable and age commensurate. I have priced to reflect the issues, even with them the quilt is spectacular and display worthy, I have not had one of these for many years, and may never get another.
