Really beautiful cut and etched glass decanter with four matching glasses in the classic Romer (or Roemer) shape used for Germany's Rhineland wines. The set came from a local estate and dates to around the 1920's or 30's, it has Art Deco elements, look at the lovely stopper, which is geometric and picks up the shape of the base of the glasses. All five pieces are heavily cut and engraved with beautiful floral decoration, they even have hand cut facets to the base to refract the light and enhance the beauty. This is a rare quality and exquisite set, better still it is in excellent order, the pieces look as if they have been seldom if ever used, they had been cabinet stored for decades.
This form of glass dates back to the Alsace region of medieval Germany and France (always a rather mutable border), and is a classic small size with ribbed stem. The decanter measures approx 8" tall, both the stopper and neck of the decanter are ground, while the glasses measure a shade under 3" tall. Highest quality glass, if you love the wines that these are designed for, then this is the ultimate way to serve them.
