Poems by John Masefield, selected by the senior professors in the English Department at Yale University and published by The Macmillan Company of New York in 1925. John Edward Masefield (born 1878, died 1967) was an English poet and writer and is remembered for two children's novels "The Midnight Folk" and "The Box of Delights" and the poems "The Everlasting Mercy" and "Sea-Fever" both in this selection of his works. John Masefield was Poet Laureate of the United Kingdom from 1930-1967.
The book was purchased from the estate of Vivian Monk of Monks Corner, South Carolina. Vivian Monk was a member of the Monks Family who are decedents of John Monk who arrived in Charleston in 1683 with his family. He was the youngest brother of George Monk Lord Proprietor, the Duke of Albemarle in England.
Vivian Monk's name is on the inside cover and cover page. She also made some notes on the poem "Tewkesbury Road" see photos. Apart from the owners details, the condition of the book is very good with just slight discoloration to a few pages on the corner, and slight wear to the top and tail of the spine.
