Fabulous butter pat or butter dish, which was probably originally part of a complete dinner service. This small oblong dish measures 4 1/2" square. The color is creamy white ironstone, with a bluish black transfer design. The decoration is asymmetrical with flowers and insects, it is very detailed and botanical, and personifies the Victorian love of nature. The back of the dish is stamped with a crown, the makers name A.Bros for Ashworth Brothers of Staffordshie, and Victoria for the pattern, it dates to circa 1880, and is by a well known maker of highly decorative Aesthetic pieces.
The dish is in great condition, with no chips, cracks, or repairs, there are some minor underglaze cracks from drying in the kiln, original to the making, and minor wear commensurate with age. This fabulous dish will make a stunning addition to any Aesthetic transferware or butter pat collection.
