A superb little Victorian mauchline ware box, dating to around 1900.

The softwood box measures approx 4" wide by 3" deep by 2" tall, it is finished in black enamel and has an applied design of flowers and leaves to the lid with the motto "Loves Token" and the following sentimental poem:

LOVE is the secret sympathy
The silver link, the silken tie
Which heart to heart, & mind to mind
In body and in soul can bind

The base of the box is covered in a blue textured paper, the lid is hinged. For being over a century old the box is in good order with just very slight wear to the edges of the design, the little tab that opens the metal catch is broken, but I was able to opened the box with my finger nail with very little problem; I have adjusted the price to allow for this slight issue.
