This is a really lovely Victorian era petticoat with TWO ornate ruffled layers at the hem, the inner layer with an embellishment of fine Broderie Anglaise lace, and the outer of two tiers, this time with both pin tucking and a larger pattern Broderie Angalise ruffle, see photos for details (Broderie Anglaise is characterized by patterns composed of small eyelets bound with overcast stitches). The effect of all this layering and lace is very full and opulent, the petticoat has a smooth waistline with no gathering in the front, and just a small amount in the back. Because of the shape you could probably use with a small bustle, it is ideal for a wedding, you could even wear it with a beautiful top for a beach wedding, it is very lovely. The petticoat fastens to the back with ties, it has a couple of small old and well done repairs which really are very hard to find, it has been has been freshly laundered, and there are no significant stains, and only a couple of very tiny pin holes, it is still very sturdy and wearable, the condition for the age is excellent. The petticoat measures 42" long, and is 24" around the waist though the ties allow for some easing, the hips are flexible due to the full cut. Really lovely all original Victorian petticoat for wear or display.
