A ornate entirely hand fabricated tea kettle or pot of copper and brass with applied decoration, see photos.
We have not polished this piece because we liked the existing patina, the condition is very good with a lid that fits perfectly and no leaks, there are a couple of larger dents and some smaller dents typical from age and use, see photos for more detail.
The tea kettle measures approx. 11" to the top of the handle and 11" from the spout to edge of kettle, it is 7 1/2" diameter at the widest point, with a 6" diameter at the base. The bottom of the kettle has a signature or makers mark (though as this is in Arabic script I could not read it), a sure sign that it was produced by a skilled artisan craftsman.
This particular kettle is older vintage, it would be hard to give the exact date of manufacture as it is in a traditional form that dates back to the ancient Persian empire. Kettles in this form are still made in the Middle East in the same way that they have been made for hundreds of years, however the old skills are rapidly dying out as the work is just too labor intensive making hand made pieces such as this highly desirable.
The kettle is a wonderful example of Middle Eastern metal work, it is sturdy, beautiful and highly decorative.
