From the mid 1800s Scottish jewelry was very popular due to Queen Victoria's interest in Scotland.
This is a stunning, large, very high quality Victorian silver Scottish agate gemstone brooch. It is superbly constructed using eight tubular overlaying crescents. Each are finely engraved and set with a crescent shaped agate gemstone. The beautiful stones include rare gold moss Burn Anne agate, grey banded agate, green bloodstone and burnt orange jasper ~ just wonderful. The brooch has no hallmarks which is often found with pieces from this period, but it has been fully tested and is silver of sterling grade. The pin and C clasp are in good working condition and original.
Dimensions are : 2 inches in diameter; over 1/2 inch in depth; each of the crescents are 5/8 inch across; weight is 22.8 grams. This is in lovely original antique condition with no damage to silver or agate.
Scottish agate pieces of this quality are very rare ~ this is a wonderful collection piece.
