This rare and extraordinary 19th Century cameo ring has a profile of a young Victorian beauty in beautifully detailed Victorian dress and wearing a veil in her finely detailed hair. The ring is large and a striking statement piece. The oval cameo is intricately hand carved in lustrous carnelian and creamy white. The carving is meticulous, in particular the beautiful transparency of her hair ornamentation and her sensitively detailed expression. It is very rare to find a hard-stone cameo ring with such exceptional carving.
The setting for the cameo is a classic yellow gold Victorian finely etched mount with scrolled shoulders and a plain gold band. The band is unmarked, but tests as gold of 14 carat.
Dimensions are : the cameo is 1 1/8 inches in height and 7/8 inch wide; the mount is 1/8 wide; size is US 7.25 and can be easily re-sized; weight is 17.7 grams. In superb antique condition, the cameo is wonderful and the gold setting has minimal wear to note ~ this has been lovingly cared for.
