A gorgeous small pair of French earrings dating to the era of Napoleon 111 1852-1870. Beautifully crafted in 18k yellow and green gold in a lovely fluted shape with a tiny fleur de lis shaped decoration in green gold and a raised centre. These are very petite ~ they would suit a small ear or would be lovely as earrings for a child. They are beautifully made with a lovely profile, and these dormeuses or sleepers are so comfortable to wear.
Hallmarks: Solid 18k. The earrings are hallmarked with the Tête de Cheval, the French control mark for 18K gold representing a horse's head that was in use in France from about 1838 to 1919. The front latching wires operate well. These are in fine antique condition with a lovely antique rose to the gold. One of the green gold sections is a little worn, but this is not noticeable in wear.
Dimensions are : 17/16 inch (1.3 cm) from the ear; the width of the earring face is just under 1/4 inch across; weight is 0.6 grams.
These are lovely petite 'boucles d'oreilles Anciennes dormeuses' ~ so very chic !
