A superb pair of French earrings from the era of Napoleon 111 1852-1870. Beautifully crafted in 18k gold in a design typical to the period, they have a wonderful profile. A fine rose cut diamond is set into the raised center of each. These are surrounded by collect set seed pearls cluster set an ornate setting in yellow 18 carat gold. The design is classically simple and beautifully French !
Hallmarks: Solid 18k. The earrings are hallmarked with the Tête de Cheval, the French mark of a horse head and used for jewellery and watches from 18k gold made in the French provinces between 1838 and 1919.
The front latching wires operate perfectly. These are in fine antique condition with the diamonds bright and clear. Several of the pearls have nacre darkening and loss, but are still charming. The earrings are of mid size for those of this era and are suitable for a small to medium ear.
Dimensions are : just under 3/4 inch from the ear piercing; the width is 3/8 inch across; diameter of the diamonds: 3 mm, diameter of the surrounding pearls: between 1.8 and 2 mm : weight is 2.4 grams.
These are gorgeous 'boucles d'oreilles Anciennes - dormeuses' so very chic!
