Björn Weckström, Finnish sculptor and jewelry designer, has worked for the leading Finland design company Lapponia Jewelry in Helsinki since 1963. His pieces in silver are cool sculptural Modernist forms of soft, tranquil design that evoke the Finnish landscape of snow and glaciers. The designs are stunningly beautiful, each having a freshness that is normally only possible for unique pieces.
This ring, titled Sirene has a soft textured surface to accentuate the sculptural nature of the piece, and has polished folding ridges. The design comes from the late 1960s and the ring carries the date mark for 1970. The band has full hallmarking as follows: 925 H, crown national mark, town mark for Helsinki, Lapponia symbol, R7 (1970), STERLING, designer’s mark B W (Björn Weckström)
Dimensions are : width of the face is 3/4 inch x 1/2 inch; size is US 7.5 ; it weighs 9.8 grams and is in superb condition with minimal surface marks.
This is a quietly spectacular ring from one of the most important jewelry designers working today and is a superb example of modernist Scandinavian design.
