Antique Victorian 9CT Gold Hawks Eye Ring Size 8.25

A phenomenal antique Victorian 9 CT rosy yellow gold ring with Hawk's Eye quartz stone.

The dark stone is multi-colored with wavy golden and gray patterns, striking chatoyancy, and a silky lustre....quite lovely. Hawks Eye is famed for it's chatoyancy , an optical phenomena in which undulating bands of light (cat's eye) moves beneath the surface of the stone. Tiger's Eye is closely related and actually is formed from Hawk's eye. Hawk's Eye can be distinguished from Tiger's Eye by its bluish gray coloring, in some cases, only seen as chatoyant flashes. I personally don't see very much blue coloring in this stone, but my gemologist confirmed this as a Hawk's eye stone. I personally like the coloring of this stone better than the browner hues in Tiger stone. Unfortunately, my photos don't do this stone justice.

The large oval gemstone is cabochon cut, and bezel set within a simple, yet lovely, 9 ct gold mounting. The stone measures 15.8mm x 12mm x 5.6mm. Split shank shoulders feature a stud accent on each side.

The ring measures a size 8.25 on a measuring wand, and would most likely also accommodate a slightly larger size finger because of it's formation. It weighs a substantial 6+ grams. Marked 9CT within a recessed rectangle. The ring and stone are both in great antique condition.

Hawk's Eye is an uncommon find in antique jewelry. Like most quartz gemstones, it is quite durable and resistant to wear and tear. However, it is sensitive to some acids, so cleaning should only be done using warm water and a mild soap or detergent.
