Very attractive early 1900's, English small, whiplash, brass picture frame with transitional styling. The styling, to me, suggests both Art Nouveau and Arts & Crafts elements. It is a lovely and timeless piece, that fits in with both antique & modern decor. Having a horizontal picture area, the frame contrasts nicely with many other antique frames ( if you like to group them).
This little frame measures almost 3" tall and 4" wide (at widest). The picture area measures 1 1/2" tall x 2 1/4" wide. It has it's original thick beveled glass and an easel back.
The frame is in very nice antique condition. When taking photos, a couple corners of the cardboard backing came off. I added an additional piece of cardboard, but if when placed at home, you will see the backside, you may want to replace with a darker colored cardboard. On close inspection, I noticed a bit of asymmetry of the whiplash design, due to it's handcrafted nature (just adds more charm!). Also, the "bar" on the backside was made to tilt, perhaps on purpose, because the frame sits perfectly even & straight.
