This beautiful box is solid and substantial measuring 1 7/8 inch across and 5/8 inches tall. It weighs just under 40 grams including the beveled mirror inside the hinged lid. Most likely originally intended as a dressing table compact as it has no suspension ring for a chatelaine. It would have been too heavy for a chatelaine. The hinged lid of the box is repousse embossed with a large central flower surrounded by a circle of little roses. The side of the box is decorated with a repeat pattern of laurel wreaths and ribbon bows. Inside is gilded, on the inner edge of the lid is a large French hallmark of the head of Minerva indicating silver. The condition is excellent
