The original item from Romancing The Doll is now SOLD.
This 15" wonderful and early happy faced, painted cloth black child doll was handmade by premier doll artist Barbara Thiery Buysse in "4/87." The doll's back is stamped in black "94" and signed and dated by the artist. Her front torso is stamped "Johnna Art Dolls Kalamazoo." Barbara Buysse sold many of her dolls circa the 1990's. They ranged in size from 8"-25" and featured OOAK oil painted faces on cloth. This happy child is dressed in a floral printed dress, a red printed pinafore, and pink knit drawers (spotted). Her happy face is expressively painted with large amber eyes and a broad smile showing teeth. Her ears are applied, while her painted black hair is thickly painted in the impasto manner and then detailed with four mohair pigtails tied in red ribbons. Her floppy oil painted arms with separate fingers and her floppy oil painted legs with stitched toes are attached to a firmly stuffed torso. The doll's clothing sustains fading from age and storage, while some of her painting has lightly flaked (her hair). She may need a dusting. No bad odors! What a delightful character doll she is! Sure to make you smile!
