XM4.4 Vintage Flat Dresden Santa in an Airplane Decor
Look at this delightful St. Nicholas making his deliveries in an open vintage airplane. Across the wings of the plane are the words "A Merry Christmas" in mica glittering silver letters. Santa is wearing a red robe trimmed in white crystal glitter and is carrying colorful packages on the back of the plane. There is relief and surface texture on the pressed die cut heavy cardboard as is in the Dresden technique. The plane is 8 ½ x 6 ½ inches (23x16 cm). What fun for your Christmas Putz collection!
This item is an exciting 80 year old find from former East Germany. The factory made these items before the turn of the century until the establishment was destroyed in WW2. What I am offering you is from an unused stock that was made in the 40's and survived the war packed away in a safe place. These items were packed away before the war and never saw the light which would darken the quality of the cardboard. They were painted after they were found again and not before they were packed away in the 40's. They have never been used or displayed.
The classic Dresden technique involves first die cutting out the paper maché form one at a time and then pressing the reliefs onto the surface with a weight of almost 1000 pounds. After that, each single piece was then spray painted and decorated by hand
