French Velvet & Metallic Chair Covers with Silver Metallic Cranes

You are looking at a matching pair of magnificent French boudoir chair covers, which date to the 19th century. I was lucky enough to have purchased them many years ago from an elderly French woman who was selling many of her prized textiles she brought to the states from France.

As you can see, the stylized center is done in burgundy velvet; gold metallic work surrounds the outer edges, along with inside areas. The two cranes are done in silver, gold & copper metallic threads, with the head/beak & a small portion of each leg done in fabric. There's ornate metallic work in between the cranes, along with fabric. The outer portion is done in floral fabric with gold metallic scrollwork throughout. The floral fabric has a black background, with the flowers/greenery done in creamy yellow, very light peach, blue, deep gold along with various shades of green.

The two top corners have a curved cut-out to fit a chair; the bottom portion is curved.

The back has a separate layer of cream color mesh.

The condition of one is mint, with no flaws to note. The other one has a piece torn off the bottom, which is approx. 2 1/2" across X 1" top to bottom. Other than that, it is in mint condition as well. Depending on what you plan on using them for, the chair cover with the imperfection could have trim added to it or better yet, burgundy velvet sewn along the top edge, all the way around as a border.

The dimensions are approximately: 18 1/2" center top to bottom; 15" across the middle; 8" across the top edge. This is difficult to measure due to the curved bottom and the curved cut-outs on the top corners.

I can't even begin to tell you how truly spectacular these French chair covers are. They could be used as intended, as the center for pillows or framed. No matter how they are used, they will look amazing.
