The original item from Suzan Dentry Antiques is now SOLD.
Offered is a set of 3 antique English brass bells with Christian symbols from the Medieval Bestiary. Each bell is encircled by the same four animals that are named in Latin. Leo, lion; Aquila, eagle; Agnus, lamb and Pelicans, pelican. All of these animals have Christian symbolism in the Medieval Bestiary. Very simply, Leo and the pelican can represent Christ. The lamb represents child/mother relationships. The eagle represents renewal and faith. For a fascinating explanation of these symbols you can Google the Medieval Bestiary.
The bells seem to have their original clappers. They make a joyful noise.
MARKS: The medium bell says Made in England inside at the top.
CONDITION: Excellent. I have not polished these. I do not know why the large bell is shiny and the others are not.
MEASUREMENTS: Large bell, 3 inches tall x 2 5/8 diameter.
