19th Century Needlework Needlepoint Picture Queen Victoria's Dog and Macaw Superb Maple Frame Early Victorian Circa 1840

This is one of the most attractive pictures of young Queen Victoria's pets that we have been lucky enough to retail. This is a sweet needlepoint interpretation of the Queen's cherished pet Skye terrier called Islay and her favorite red Macaw called Tilco. The show stopper is the original early Victorian Birds Eye Maple veneered frame with top hangers, it just GLOWS and sets this piece apart from similar needleworks......

This appealing needlework is worked in petit point stitching (tent stitch) upon a canvas ground. The back ground worked in several shades of brown. The entire woolwork is housed under glass set within a gilt slip and within a gorgeous maple veneer frame. Complete with its two original top metal suspension loops and old glass, this beauty is ready to hang.

Frame size: 14.5" by 13.75", visible sight 9.5" by 8.75"

Condition. The original frame is a quality frame with wooden end joints. the Maple veneer has the most warm, honeyed coloring. There is minor wear to a few of the edges and some age darkening in the joint area but all as expected with a frame of this age. The woolwork is sound being free from holes or damage. There is some minor dust trapped under the glass. We have had no cause to open this piece.
