Christopher Gist Frontier Scout Book by Allan Powell - Red Tag Sale Item
Published in 1991 by The Burd Street Press and Beidel Printing House of Shippensburg, PA, this is Allan Powell's book entitled Christopher Gist Frontier Scout. It is a softcover volume with 85 pages and is in very good, clean condition. Gist was an interesting character, although somewhat unknown, and an accomplished explorer, surveyor, and frontiersman who worked alongside George Washington as a scout, messenger and Indian agent, was later a guide for General Braddock, and although Daniel Boone is generally credited with opening Kentucky to European settlement, Gist preceded him there by at least fifteen years. Gist also travelled among the Cherokee in Tennessee during the French and Indian War to seek allies for the British. This volume is quite an interesting read and it would be a great addition to your library!
