The original item from Nicole La Bay is now SOLD.
Published in one of the earliest JUGEND issues, the #5 of 1898, this is a very rare print by Carl Strathmann (1866-1939) which is not just Art but a real culture shock!
The colors are simple, already Art Deco, gray, black, white and yellow,
but the drawing has an extreme sophistication which announces Abstraction, notwithstanding the interpretation of femininity,
and this is 9 years before the Demoiselles d'Avignon by Picasso!
A young fashionable lady is sitting in a tree, with a heart carved on its trunk, and branches that are clearly ending into Art Nouveau "noodles".
She is wearing the most outrageous dress, with the tightest corset underneath, and smoking a cigarette.
She has removed one of her gloves.
Her headpiece is even more outrageous than her dress, and I am sorry, people, these flowers are typical Art Deco.
The piece is signed in the plate, and Strathmann's name is also mentioned under the image.
It is called: "Little bird on a branch".
A fantastic and totally unique artwork, that will bring Art Nouveau refinement to any decor.
Length: 11 1/2 ". Width: 5 3/8".
(29 cm) by (13.5 cm)
In very good condition. No damage. Text at the back. 2 small printing spots were covered with a white pencil. Not noticeable and can be erased easily.
Will be shipped "Registered" from Paris, (very safe!) including online tracking (US and Canada) insurance and signature at delivery.
