The original item from English And French Country Antiques is now SOLD.
SMALL 19th century French glass cloche: Blown clear-glass, garden cloche with an applied, hollow glass knob handle. Originally used to shelter young plants from frost, this particular example is considerably smaller in size to a melon cloche, and is visually pleasing in its organic form -with striations, inclusions and unevenness in the glass. Many cloches were made without knobs, or had knobs sliced off, to allow a more even diffusion of light. The knob on this cloche has been partially sliced off, as shown and is considered a normal characteristic of antique cloches. The glass is nicely weathered from its exposure to the elements over time, and the look is both venerable and decorative.
Condition: Excellent original antique condition with normal usage-related wear that includes hard water deposits.
Size: 13” in height. Base diameter is 11 ½”.
