A Good Quality Victorian Silver Purse,1898.
A particularly good quality antique English silver purse. The purse is beautifully decorated with a raised pattern of flowers and leaves.|The quality of the purse also becomes evident, partly in that it has sides which are cast and not embossed silver, which in turn is emphasised through the noticeable weight of the purse. Another little sign of quality, is seen with the middle pocket having hallmarked silver edges. There are five green silk pockets in all, with the central pocket being closed by a hinged clip.
The purse was made by the silversmith Henry Matthews and is hallmarked for Birmingham 1898. The purse measures 3 1/2" by 2" and weighs 99gms.
