The original item from The Vintage Crate is now SOLD.
The Markham company, the inventor of the modern BB gun started in 1886 with the Chicago model. The Chicago model was sold by Sears & Roebuck for 97 cents. It was the longest-lived model of the wooden BB guns and lasted until about 1910. The gun is made from hard rock maple with metal parts attached where needed. The gun breaks in the center, and a stiff wire pushes the piston and mainspring back until another bent and flattened wire formed into a trigger blade and sear caught it. The gun is unique in that there is no end to the compression chamber. In 1916, Daisy bought the Markham King company. To this day Daisy makes the claim to have been in the BB gun business since 1886. This gun is approximately 32 inches long and is in very good condition. There is a chip of wood missing from the barrel at the point where the barrel breaks. This is a very rare BB gun, rich with history and a great story. History of the was in part taken from a piece written by B.B. Pelletier originally posted on November 9, 2007. The gun cover is not original to the gun but is included.
