Koho Shoda (1871-1946), 'Chickens on Roof and Mount Fuji'
This print depicts a Rooster and a Hen on a thatched rooftop under very tall pines, with Mount Fuji in the distance. This is an original woodblock print, with exceptional details from c1910. Koho Shoda's life is shrouded by mystery. Some state that he lived between 1875 and 1925, while others say 1871 and 1946. Koho worked with Nishinomiya Yosaku, a Tokyo publisher. He was a shin hanga artist, whose work was somewhat transitional, some works more contemporary, and others more traditional ukiyo-e images. This pillar print, which is unframed, measures 13.25" high by a narrow 3.25" wide. It bears Shoda's cipher and the publisher's cipher below. This lifetime print has gorgeous color, and it is in wonderful original condition. P9820
