The original item from LaJuan's Lair is now SOLD.
A very beautiful genuine natural coral necklace that has a fabulous clasp. The coral beads graduate down in size as it move up the neck. The largest coral center bead is 6.5mm followed by 6mm, 5.6mm, slowly graduating down to 3.85mm in the very back next to the clasp.
The coral is considered red. It is about the color of a very ripe tomato. Some of the corals do have a few white spots, there are also some imperfections in corals as well. These are very old and look to be hand carved.
Based on the clasp as well as the corals I do believe this was a Victorian necklace and clasp that was at some point restrung on silk. The corals are knotted between every bead.
The clasp is sterling and though very faint and worn with magnification you can just see the mark on back of clasp. There is gorgeous engraved detail. The clasp is in perfect working order. There is a button coral cabochon on the clasp which is obviously hand carved. It has some wear to the coral which is to be expected given its age though very beautiful and is not chipped or cracked. The clasp measures 15.7mm with the coral measuring 9.4mm.
The clasp is so pretty you can actually wear it front and center for a second look. The clasp has not been polished. I have left this to the new owner. If so desired, I am certain it would polish up bright and shiny if this is your preference.
Length is 17 inches Weight is 13 grams
Though the necklace is a bit on the dainty side it really grabs your attention. I love that this piece was knotted between every coral bead which make the necklace much more elegant though I just cannot imagine how long this took. A piece you rarely come upon now days.
