A superb Early Danish Wooden Mangle Board, dating 1727!!
A beautyful and very detailed Mangleboard in light Oak, dating 1727! The board is finely engraved with a medieval sword where the handle of the sword evolves into a tree.
The mangle board (sometimes called mangling board or smoothing board) is one of the most time-typical and interesting objects of folk art, this old domestic implement was used to press or smooth laundry after washing.
The finest chipped and painted boards like this, was only used as wedding gifts and was decoration objects and not for practical use.
Mangle boards are more common in Scandinavia, but were produced until the later 19th. century from Alsace (France) to Russia, including the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Finland, the British Isles.
Size: ca. 74 cm.
Condition: Nice and intact, but some ypical wear, and finely patinated.
