This beautiful jade necklace is made with a piece of natural green jade with some areas of golden in the jade. It has been hand carved with a rabbit on a gourd and is carved on both sides. The jade is 2” long by 1 1/4” wide and has some cut out areas in the carving. I have beaded it with 12 mm natural Burmese jade beads. There is variation in the color of the green jade. The necklace is 20 1/2” around, is finished with a 18k gold vermeil clasp and is one of a kind.
The rabbit is symbolic of virtue and longevity. Those born in the year of the rabbit are intelligent, successful in business and lucky in love.
The gourd is symbolic of longevity.
Chinese royalty has worn jade for centuries. It has been used since the Neolithic times for tools, weaponry, amulets, vases and figurines because of its hardness. It is believed to be a spiritual stone and has been called the jewel of heaven. It represents the five principal virtues: charity, modesty, courage, justice and wisdom. From cloudy white to golden brown, light to dark green, to rare lavender, jade is the most highly prized Asian gemstone. Jade has been regarded as the most precious stone for thousands of years. It is believed to protect the wearer and ensure good luck and good health as well as to increase life span.
