This pendant necklace is made with a carved bone Chinese netsuke. It depicts an old fisherman holding a basket full of fish. The detail of the carving is beautiful showing off the facial detail and the etching on the old man’s robe as well as the eyes of the fish. The robe is etched in a variety of patterns - both floral and geometric in reds and brown. The figure is signed on the bottom by the artist who carved him. The figure is suspended from part of a chopstick and carved cinnabar.
A fisherman is considered one of the four basic occupations: fisherman, woodcutter, peasant and the scholar. The fish is symbolic of abundance, prosperity, wealth and persistence.
The carved bone figure is 2” long by 1” wide and is carved and etched all around so is lovely from every angle. The figure can be displayed when you are not wearing it.
The figure drops 3 3/4” from a black natural leather cord that is adjustable from 16” to 32” by slipknots.
