This necklace is comprised on an antique Chinese porcelain shard encased in sterling silver. The shard has a figure of a Chinese lady in a robe of aqua and lavender. the shard measures 2 1/2” long by 1 1/2” wide and drops fro a necklace bead in clear aqua 9 mm fluorite nuggets. The necklace is 21” around and is finished with a sterling silver hook clasp.
Chinese porcelain has a history of more than five thousand years. These pieces of folk art have been handed down from one generation to another. They were greatly improved and developed and since the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 A. D.) have been extensively exported to different parts of the world. Chinese porcelain produced during the reigns of Kang Hsi and Chien Lung in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911 A. D.) has especially been well-known and highly valued throughout the world. They have been noted for fineness in quality, brilliance in luster and exquisiteness in workmanship. Porcelain shards from the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) are the recovered pieces of vases and other objects of art that were destroyed and buried during China's Cultural Revolution. The remaining shards of these beautiful porcelain pieces are highly valued as pieces of beauty and history. Chinese Qing Dynasty porcelain was hand painted (therefore, not reproducible. Finding ones with entire figures is rare as they occupied such a small area of the porcelain pieces. Each piece of Chinese jewelry inlaid with antique porcelain shards is unique.
